Outline: The Majestic

I. Introduction
A. Peter Appleton
1. Rising young Hollywood screenwriter
2. Accused of communism for attending an antiwar meeting during college years
a. His reason behind it was to impress a girl
3. His movie gets pushed back due to the accusations
4. Got left by his movie star girlfriend
5. Finally, his conract with the studio is dropped.

II. His life takes a wrong turn
A. Upset, he gets drunk and accidently ends up driving off a bridge
B. He is found later on ashore by a dog with a lost memory
C. The dogs owner takes Peter to feed him and get him cleaned up.

III. Mistaken identity
A. Recognized by a town citizen
1. He is believed to be Luke Trimble (townboy killed in WWII 9 years before)
2. His "father" Harry is extremely happy to see him
3. Peter is completely clueless but plays along.
4. "Meets" his girlfriend Adele Stanton.

IV. Playing along
A. Peter, after seeing the excitement of the entire town of Lukes return, decides to play along.
B. He tries to "rememeber" as much as possible
C. Falls in love with his "girlfriend"
D. Believed that opening up the Majestic movie theater would be a great idea
1. Members of the town all contribute to its reopening
E. Back in Washington D.C, members of the Congressional commitee believe that his disappearance was because he in fact is a communist
1. Two soldiers are on the look for him
F. A one handed soldier who served in WWII, who was Luke's friend, is supicious of his return and confronts Peter.

V. And the memories come back
A. The Majestic is back in business!
B. Peter convinces the town that the memorial of Franklin D. Roosevelt should be displayed
C. "Sand Pirates of the Sahara" is now played.
1. Peter starts to get his memory back as he remembers the lines from the movie
2. All the memories flow back to him
D. At that moment, Harry has a heart attack
1. Peter lets him die believing that he is his son

VI. The truth shall come out
A. After the funeral, Peters tells Adele that he is not Luke.
B. Moments after, federal agents invade the town and the truth is out
C. Peter is taken away and is supposed to appear before Congress
D. Later on that night, Peter's lawer tells him to admit and name a list of Communists in order to clear up his name
1. Peter agrees to this
2. Adele believes that he should defend himself against these accusations instead of letting him be accused for no good reason.
a. She attempts this by giving him a letter written by Luke that states that he knows that he is dying for a good case.
B. The letter inspires him

VII. The end/trial
A. When facing the committee, Peter tries to fire back the committee
B. After gathering up courage, he makes a speech about American ideals and tries to fight for his innocence
1. The crowd starts to support him
C. After being proved wrong, the committee sets him free
D. Peter then decides to go back to Lawson
1. All townsfolks are glad to see him and welcome him
2. His real relationship with Adele starts now.
