"I Don't Care About Slavery, I Care About The Union!"

Abraham Lincoln was one of the greatest Presidents before and during the Civil War of America. But, he was more concerned with preserving the Union, not ending slavery. Reason why he didn't worry about slavery is because he would have caused a more serious inccident during his campaign, even though the South thought he was anti- slavery. Slavery was such a touchy subject that, if Lincoln had went anti- slavery at the beginning of his campaign, it would have caused the Union to split right when he came in.He was trying to keep America from going to war with itself.

You Are Such a Yokel!

Stereotypes, they are all around us in our society. Almost everyone knows every stereotype, but what is the point of them all? Well, my thoughts are that people need something to call someone. It seems crazy to say, but if you think about it, you use a stereotype to make fun of people. Next time you call someone by a stereotype, think about how you would feel if someone called you by a stereotype.

Former Slaves: Was it Better Before or After?

Reconstruction was a time when the Union was trying to fix itself at the seems. The issues with slavery were ended, making life easier on former slaves. Before Reconstruction, former slaves were unable to marry, vote, or own property legally in the South. Once Reconstrustion was under way, former slaves got legal rights to voting, land ownership, and mariage. Black Codes put a damper on those plans, however, with some Southern states having a litaracy test to stop former slaves from voting, and the sharecropping kept former slaves in a state of debt, similar to slavery. I believe that former slaves had it easier during and after Reconstruction, for they had their rights, but certain obstacles were in their way.

The Great Debate

During Reconstruction, many people in the North (and some in the South) argued about whether the South should have gotten amnesty. I think that they should still have the amnesty they got, but not in the way they got it. Instead of making it seem like the Union was having pity on the South, a little punishment might have been acceptable. Have a little over half of each Southern state swear their loyalty to the Union, instead of the 10% that Lincoln issued. The Union should have made the Southern states work to gain their stateship rights back.

Does History Have Signifigance?

People argue all the time about if history has some kind of signinfigance or not. My thoughts on the matter are simple; the truths in history matter, but the false representations of history are not. History isn't just the texts that a certain group writes, but of the whole world. Different stories might get buried by one group, but another has what the other group hides. History does matter, you just got to know what to believe and not to believe.

History: The Agreed Lie

What Voltaire is saying in his quote is that history is what the leaders tell. Our leaders throw out all the dirty little details that could destroy what they have climbed the ladder to achieve. When you think about it, the government has hidden so much from us, yet we believe them. We agree on what they say is fact because they are in charge, and we cannot prove them wrong. There are people out there that have to believe in the lies of history, because they cannot handle the truth.
