Nazi Germany: The Ultimate Imperialistic Empire

Nazi Germany, an empire that the world thought would never stop growing. When the Nazi started to expand the limits of their empire, people were unable to stop them. Imperialism is when a nation goes in and takes land from somewhere or someone else, and that's exactly what what Hitler was doing with Germany. Nazi Germany's forces were unstoppable, his rule was wide, and he was determined to secure a land fit for his people. Hitler was ruthless, dangerous, and was twisted in the mind.

Diary of A Panama Canal Worker

May 5th, 1906,

Disease spreads quickly through out the labor camp. Many of my fellow workers have caught Malaria, while a few of them have caught typhoid. I, myself, have contracted dysentery, and feel my strength waning as the construction of the canal slowly progresses. Three of the new laborers were squashed under a railway cart that got loose yesterday, and a young white laborer named Tyler had his leg crushed from a train we had no idea had been coming. We forgot Tyler had fallen asleep, and now he has a wooden leg and crutches, because of our incompetence. I hear screams from the site. We have to use dynamite to blast through the rock to make the Canal. I need to make sure they don't need my help, with what little strength I have left.  Hopefully, this dysentery will not kill me for another week. I have not told the Site Manager about my dysentery yet, for he wouldn't care.
         Sincerely,
  Roberto Alvarez

Yellow Journalism in Iraq?

In the War in Iraq, Yellow Journalism was used to make the patriotism for the war go even higher. The numbers were exaggerated to make people sign up to go to war. We saw it through out the war. Stories would be exaggerated for public involvement in the war. The goverment uses us to play their little games.

Star Wars: A Classic Imperialism Movie

When you think of Imperialism, what classic movie series doesn't pop into your head other than STAR WARS? The origins of the movie series (Episodes 1, 2, and 3) show how the Old Galactic Republic is on the verge of collapse, and is in dire need of a change. A war is upon the Republic, but the High Chancellor, who has the power to do what he wants at the time, destroys the Republic, and replaces it with  the Galactic Empire, which crushes the worlds under its authority, and tricks the opposing side's leaders to come out of hiding, where an assassin (Anakin Skywalker aka Darth Vader) was waiting to kill them all. The days of the Rebellion (Episodes 4, 5, and 6) show what happens to those that try to appose the Might of a Powerhouse like the Empire. The Empire will destroy cities to keep order in a world. When the Empire made an example for the other worlds it controlled to see, they made the example hit hard, and it always it home. When working with Imperialism, you need to keep your nation under a tight leash, in almost any way possible. A little sabotage and leader replacement doesn't hurt, either.

School of the Americas: A Win-Lose Situation

The School of the Americas is an institute where Latin Americans get special training in different fields of espionage and counterinsurgency. My feelings on the matter are mixed, but lean more towards the institute staying open. The US has enough enemies as it is, and if we need to train people in other countries to bring have them ready to replace a leader, so be it. I am sorry that people end up being "missing," but there isn't anything that can really be done. Closing down an institute, no matter the infamy it has, will make those "missing" people magically reappear out of thin air.

The Greatest War The World Ever Saw

When you think about WWI and the causulties that were caused from it, you stop and ask one question: Why? Simple, people felt an urge of duty towards their country. Even though the dead and wounded were at catastrophic heights by the wars end, it takes courage to charge into battle, knowing you might not be making it out of the battle alive. There was so much rage going into the war, but a sense of redemption was sought for after the fires had cooled. When you ask why the casualties were so high, think about how stubborn humans can be in the first place.

Dogfighting with The Pros

After playing the game Dogfight, I have come to the conclusion that air plane pilots during WWI and WWII had a very hard job. Trying to hit a target, while staying away from other targets and not crashing can be very hard. These days, the term "dogfight" isn't as special as it once was. Now we have laser-guided missiles, heat-seeking missiles, and the best in aircraft technology. When it comes down to it, the US cannot be beat in anything now.

The Warfare of War- Related Games: Allowed or Not Allowed?

From what we read in the "no violence in games," they all the same thing: Games should not portray wars in the past, present, future, and fictional. They say it is "Inhumane," but they forget one thing that the FPS (First Person Shooter) games that are based on historical wars of the past do: teach history to those that don't pay attention to history class in school. As the past 100 years have shown us, humanity has a instinct to hurt others, with either a territory that a nation wants, or with a war that requires all members of the world community to participate in it, humanity can cause death and destruction where ever we put our feet in. So, why deny people with a chance to learn history in their own way? It is scientifically proven that every person is different, and every person learns in their own way. Even if a person playing a game like Call of Duty: World at War, that person is still learning about the World War 2, just not in a way that teachers would like. In seeing the violence in the game, people playing the game may see how bad war is, and help secure peace and freedom in many government branches, or serve in the military. "Violent Games" that depict wars can actually be a good thing.
